In these days of confinement and anxiety it’s been comforting to get outside even a little bit. I thought I’d share some pictures from the last few weeks, which saw Winter slowly loosening its grip on my area, even as we all hunkered down.
My wife spotted this stick snake on the short trail near our house. I love its goofy nose. Now we check for it each time we walk by.
Freezing temperatures gave way to an afternoon near 70 degrees on Saturday, ensuring that Cassie & I would find time to explore a few of our favorite trails. We had a good day hunting mushrooms & other interesting stuff!
I brought my macro lens into the woods again, something I just started doing but now feel I almost can’t do without. I’ve come to really enjoy it, and today got some fun shots of a few miniature beauties, such as these… I’m not sure whats. I’ll watch to see if they grow. Maybe they’re some sort of tooth fungus. I love their frilly lace hemline!
Winter Break has begun and that gives me more chances to get out hiking with Cassie. The cold which has enveloped us for many weeks broke right on time and left the woods a little soggy but full of interesting things to discover.
Look at these beauties. They’re pixie cap lichen, as far as I can tell. The tallest one is less than an inch tall. And here’s how I found them.
Weather, lack of daylight, and life have severely limited the time my daughter & I have been in the forest lately, but we did get a bit of hiking in over the last week or so. Pennsylvania is stuck in a drab pre-Winter period, but it’s still a joy to hike through the ever-changing woods with Cassie.
